The roots of the Society go back to a Sara Grey banjo workshop in Ripponden, in November 1993, when two pupils discovered that they were virtually neighbours. So Keith Johnson, another pupil, set up a mailing list and arranged a meeting which developed into the first Gainsborough Old Time Festival, which took place in February 1994. The rest, as they say, is history.
