March 8th

Crossover Bluegrass & Old Time Festival

Crossover Bluegrass & Old Time Festival will take place during the 12th-14th May 2017 at Clonter Opera Theatre, Congleton, Cheshire. The festival has been designed to create a place where both the bluegrass and old time genres are equally showcased. Our old time artists include the fantastic ‘Tom Bailey’ and ‘Rachel Eddy’ from America, who will, on top of their own solo performances, be tearing up the stage with an old time extravaganza set on the Saturday night along with UK old time connoisseurs, Jock Tyldesley and Vera Van Heeringen.

We also have the brilliant and talented duo, Kieran Towers and Charlotte Carrivick, playing great old time standards in their own unique way. Kieran Towers is an amazing fiddle player, who will also be playing with the Hot Rock Pilgrims, a band who blur the lines between old time and bluegrass and perform a stonking set every time. Other artists that blur the lines between genres include The Loose Moose String Band and Dan Walsh & John Dowling.

The festival is in a great location, with excellent facilities. The concert will take place in a 400 fixed seated auditorium with an excellent sound system and we have indoor rooms for workshops and evening sessions. We also have a lovely outdoor communal area which will have many different stalls with areas to sit down, session, grab a bite to eat or just relax.

Tickets are on sale through the website www.crossoverfest.com with a cheaper online price up until May 8th

Trad Academy Kids Folk Music Summer Camp!

Hello everyone!

It was great to see so many of you at Gainsborough last weekend. What a great festival it really is. I run an organisation called The Trad Academy and last year we organised a Folk Music Summer Camp for Kids. It was a great success and we’re doing the same thing again this year.

It’s fully residential and for kids aged 8-14 years old. We’ve got a fiddle teacher from Canada and we’ve managed to borrow 15 banjos from Hobgoblin so everyone gets to take a clawhammer banjo workshop every day. There’s also Ceilidh dancing, flatfoot dancing and loads of outdoors stuff (like the new game we invented called “Ceilidh Rounders”).

It’s happening Sunday 20th of August and run until Friday 25th 2017.

There’s loads more details on the website here: http://tradacademy.co.uk/course/trad-academy-summer-camp-august-2017/
But also we made a promotional video you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWkyptgvlDE

The maximum capacity is 30 kids and we had 16 last year, but this year we’re hoping to sell it out. It really was so much fun so tell everyone you know about it and if you know any 8-14 year olds tell them. All our staff are fully CRB checked and trained in safe guarding (about half of us are qualified school teachers too).

If you want to know more information get in touch here: http://tradacademy.co.uk/contact-the-trad-academy/

See you all soon!
