From Albion to Appalachia at Halsway Manor
Halsway Manor, the national centre for folk arts, is putting on a residential weekend titled ‘From Albion to Appalachia’ from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th May, 2018, to celebrate the centenary of Cecil Sharp’s final songhunting visit to the Southern Appalachians.
This is aimed primarily at singers and singer-instrumentalists, although there will be classes on fiddle and banjo as well as sessions on Appalachian ballads, old-time songs, gospel, classic recordings and the wonders of’crankies’. All three artists will appear in concert on the Saturday night, and both Jeff and Brian will give presentations based on the collecting work of Frank and Anne Warner and Cecil Sharp himself.
There will also be opportunities to jam and share songs with your course leaders and yourselves!
